The collection came into stewardship of the Archive through direct gift from Joey Hamelin.

Scope and content

The collection consists of originals and copies of documents of the working history of Josephine (Joey) Hamelin in professional roles at Metis Child and Family Services (MCFS) as President from 1984, her role as Chief Electoral Officer in the 1990 Metis Nation of Alberta Association General Election, her role as Director of Native Relations with the Government of Alberta Ministry, during her time on the Metis Steering Committee [ca. 2008 – 2014]. The contents of her time at MCFS include administrative documents and VHS’s relating to the 1st and 2nd National Metis Childcare Conferences in 1987 and 1988. Includes various newspapers, clippings and magazines from Wind Speaker and Otipemisiwak.

Arrangement

In donating the records, Mme Hamelin indicated of no intellectual organization or structure to the records. The records came into the Archive's possession through a range of grocery bags, boxes, folders, and an abundant amount of loose and disconnected papers. As such, the records have been arranged according to the professional working history of Mme Hamelin and her affiliations, of which account for the origin of the majority of the records.
